Today in Mrs. Deerson's class we debated whether technology was beneficial or detrimental. One of the arguments for the detrimental side was that the way we communicate with others through texting and such lowers our ability to communicate well with others. Plus, through texting or Facebook, no one can even truly understand the actual emotions that a person is attempting to portray through text.
This is kind of a stupid video, but in a way it shows that sometimes emoticons replace actual feelings to try to get a point across about how a person feels. It's pathetic, but emoticons and texting emoticons [ ex. :) ;) or :( ]are the closest thing we have to communicating our true feelings.

Thats was really inspirational. I think the anger icon is a true genius when it comes to showing emotions. But in reality, I think that text instead of speech is taking away emotions and other benefits of voice communication significantly. But the emoticons do well to try and fix some of that problem.
that video was really cute I don't really use emoticons I tend to make my own smiley faces we need to be able to know how to chat in person again because online is not the same because people don't know if you're being sarcastic or not at times so anything you type could lead the wrong message to someone and fights online break out. I say we pay more attention to nature then technology but I shouldn't be talking unless I agree to that as well.
Emoticons I believe are actually helping us to express emotion throughout technology. Saying stuff like lol and rofl are nice, but you really don't feel any emotion. Not because its from technology, but because its just writing. You could write out the same thing as you were going to say on a peice of paper or on a sign and it would still give off the same emotion. None. Emoticons give you an image to look at. They give you a little more insight to what the person is trying to express.
