Imagining Food

After the Mad Hatter Tea Party I thought this scene from Hook with Robin Williams was very fitting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-eaUT7JPZs (Sorry I did not know how to download the movie and paste it into the blog) is the link to see the clip from the movie. It starts off with Peter Pan (Robin Williams) complaining about how there is no food out on the table and he wants some real food. He then gets into some sort of dissing battle with the little boy Rofio (triple mohawk with red hair). After Peter Pan wins the battle he flings imaginary food at Rofio which suddenly turns real. Next thing you know the whole table is covered with tons and tons of food (some of it is just colorful mush actually) and Peter Pan is quite thrilled. All it takes is a little believing and your never know what you can convince your mind to believe.

There is a very thin line between real and imaginary. One imaginary thing can be reality and once what was reality can then become imaginary. For people to be able to believe, there must be a basic substance to it. If you think your the most bad ass person of all, then you need to show how, like maybe a couple tattoos and couple robbery's. If you think your a kid whos bad and you do nothing but do community service all day long, there wouldnt be much substance coming from your mind. There are dreams for that kind of things, but it will never be a reality.

Imaginary can be anything. If you believe in it then it really isn't imaginary because to that person it IS real. just because one person thinks its imaginary does not make that true. Imagination and reality are very closely related. Many things people are convinced are real can also be imaginary. I think whats real or not all depends on each individual, not what society thinks. even the definition of reality changes so it can never be defined as just one thing

This video is a perfect dipiction of what can come out of imagination. The character's daily life consisted of sitting down at the "dinner table" and eating their "meal" and thought nothing of it. However, when their daily life was affected by an unfamiliar character their imagination came alive. When the boys pretended they were eating, or maybe there really was food there that we the audience couldn't somehow see, somehow real colorful food appeared. Was it because their idea of food existed and with enough believing the food appeared? I think the question of what is, starts with an idea, thought, or memory and can come to life by the senses.

This movie is great and this scene is perfect to describe what is real and what is imaginary. Using your imagination is a great tool. It can be anything you want it to. I feel thats where dreams start. If you dream big enoguh, imagine great enough, it can become a reality. Just like in this movie, finally Peter uses his imagination to bring to life the food which he could enjoy like real food. so who is to say it was fake in the first place.
