Is ignorance bliss or is truth beauty?
In the best selling series Twilight, Bella is happier with knowing the truth about the supernatural while her dad, Charlie, isn't. What about you? Would you rather know the truth about certain things or do would you rather not know?
This is a kind of mind-boggling question, since under certain circumstances it’s better to not know everything but in other situations, it's better to know. I think in the situations regarding the supernatural, I wouldn't want to know the truth. Often, the supernatural realm is good for thriller movies but if it were true, it would be just too scary. And so I wouldn't want to know every detail. Regarding things that are lies, it depends. If the lie is something that is keeping something crucial hidden, like if someone lied about cheating on the person they’re with, then I would want to know the truth. It’s important to not be kept in the dark about really important things. Otherwise, you wouldn’t know how to handle the situation if it gets really bad. Or if the situation was regarding college, since it’s the first thing that comes to mind as a senior I would want to know if I had absolutely no chance of being admitted into a school instead of being lied to to spare my feelings so I don’t waste my time or my hopes applying for admission. But with lies that are harmless lies like telling my friend that I like the shirt they bought me although I didn’t, I’d rather be ignorant. Telling the little lies like about the present is just a way to keep the giver happy with the gift they gave, the receiver happy that the giver is happy, and the situation overall to not be spoiled. But I also think that wanting to know the truth depends on the age of the person. A common lie told to children is that Santa Claus exists. It is all right that the little kid believes in Santa. But at a certain age, we have to realize that Santa isn’t real. I think it’s the same thing with relationships. If two parents are getting a divorce and their three-year old asks why, the parents shouldn’t explain that they hate their ex and that they can’t stand living with them but the parent should put it into milder words, leaving out the hate. So I think it depends on the situation and the age of the person that the truth would be told to.
Sometimes I would rather not know the truth, but I know that is better to know the truth, that way I could be aware of the situation in front of me. I rather people be straight up with me than beating around the bush. I prefer honesty over anything else.
It depends in my opinion. There are certain things that I would want to know the truth about. For example, if something bad happened to a close friend or family member, I would want to know. However, if for some reason someone knew when I was going to die, I wouldn't want to know, because then there will always be that clock ticking.

ah i love the twilight series. i think that i would rather know the truth about the things. regarding the supernatural, i'd like to know the truth too. it is better to know the truth than to just hear lies. i don't mind white lies as much though, those little lies that are harmless to other people like telling a person they look pretty when they don't, everyone has done it some time in their life.
I wouldn't want to know in any situation. Ignorance is bliss and perception is everything. Why would I want to eliminate the possibility of bliss and tarnish my pleasant perception?
Although everyone says the truth is always better i think it only is better if you can handle it. If i was in her situation i don't think i can handle the truth. I would rather not know everything. Knowing the truth is important most of the time in daily life but if the real truth is so huge that it can change your entire life, world, and future i'm not sure i'd sign up so fast. Just like in the matrix, which pill to take the red or the blue pill.
Just like every other situation in life, I think it depends. While most would argue that knowledge or truth is most important, ignorance can be much easier. With respect to Pleasantville from last unit, the people in the community were perfectly happy in their ignorance, but those outside knew that they were completely clueless about everything around them. Although it was difficult for the people in Pleasantville to learn of things such as sex or different color, it was something that needed to be done. Ignorance is only bliss to a certain extent.
It all depends I think. But most of the time, I end up regretting finding out and wish i didn't need to know. But then, other times I'm glad I found out because then I would keep wondering how life would be different if I never knew. And sometimes knowing certains things helps person grow a little more as a person.. Being so oblivious to so many things isn't that great.
